It's been a minute, Dreamwidth
Jul. 3rd, 2023 06:58 amMy last update here was in 2019, but what got me actively updating was getting into Timeranger, an old Tokusatsu show that aired in 2000. Technology and culture from that era were on my brain, and my former Livejournal browsing days.
Lately, my current obsession just happens to be another show from the early 2000s. Yugioh GX is an anime that I had been into when I was barely a teen. The peak of its fandom activity had long since passed, or so I thought until I stumbled on the many, many Japanese fanartists on Twitter, posting art and promoting lovingly prepared doujinshi like it's more than a decade ago. So after a total year-long break from fandom, I began creating fanwork for an old show, and thinking back on my younger years.
Which brings me here, back to Dreamwidth. My first attempt to populate and establish this account in December 2018 coincided with the exodus from Tumblr. Quite similar to recent exodus from Twitter. Who knows if many of the new users, or myself, will continue to make an Internet home for ourselves here.
But as the unfolding of history has shown, it's a good idea to stick around for a while.

Date: 2023-07-03 12:24 am (UTC)I really want to see Timeranger sometime! Kobayashi is my favorite toku writer, so I want to see everything she has made. It sounds so good too. I recently finished Ryuki and loved it a lot as well.
We are really living in a very transitional period for the internet now. Wishing you the best in finding yourself a new online home during these changes, whatever it would look like for you! <3

Date: 2023-07-03 07:56 am (UTC)I got into YGO through DM too! It's kind of amazing that for an anime franchise based on a niche card game with rather complicated rules, YGO has turned out to be an early favourite among many anime fans. While trying to dig up fanwork for Timeranger, most of it especially the slash stuff has long disappeared from defunct fansites, so it's a pleasant surprise when that's not the case for the older YGO shows.
Kobayashi Sentais are as fun and thematically meaty as her Rider shows. I'll be looking out for when you get to any of them or even any of the Sentais :DD
Hope we'll keep seeing each other around on Dreamwidth!

Date: 2023-07-03 01:49 pm (UTC)Yes exactly! For a lot of anime fans from the late 90s/early 00's I've seen YGO be a early favorite for a lot of folks. It does make my heart happy to see how it as a whole alongside the earlier entries still gets so much love, even today. I feel YGO having a bigger sort of fandom presence worldwide is a factor in how you could find older slash fanworks today, compared to timeranger or other media of the time. Ryuki is a good example from my end.
I'm super looking forward to it! Kuuga is next for me on the menu, I'm going to finish it but after I do I wanna switch it up for the next few shows and see things outside of rider to help keep it fresh. I'll be keeping my eyes on the sentai she's written! I've seen a few episodes of toqger recently, and its a delight. So I am looking forward to seeing all of the sentai she's made. <3
I've on here a lot over the past year plus, I've used DW pretty consistently once I started my personal initiative to get away from Twitter in the past. So I look forward to talking with you more here over time! :D I wish you a great rest of your day!
