In a Discord I'm in, I got inspired to imagine how an author could create a bunch of fics to post as treats for a holiday exchange. I went further to brainstorm the potential fics as Camping AUs of one big larger story taking place at the same time for which the different exchange recips could later piece together like one big Super Sentai mecha 😂

These are the plots I thought up that would perhaps fulfill many of the holiday exchange's open-ended requests:

Then perhaps each fic could include hyperlinks to other fics in the larger interconnected story. Hopefully the recips and all other readers would not only be extra entertained, but also extra inspired to complete their end of year reviews and reflect on the larger picture of the past year 😌

Some activities I did lately that I haven't been doing for the past year or so:

Studying Japanese -- I managed to secure a seat to retake the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) and have begun revising in earnest! I'm going to sit for the test for level N1, but to be fully prepared I'm going to revise the grammar for level N3 and N2. Currently, I'm almost done with taking notes and completing the quizzes in the JLPT TRY N3 book, which I recommend for its relevant and practical sentence examples.

Posting fic on AO3 -- Today, I've posted my first new work since May 2024. It's a drabble compilation about The Karate Kid and I might as well admit now that I've failed in my resolution that I've stated in a previous post, which is to only watch media related to the Lupin III franchise for the rest of 2025.

Watching tokusatsu -- I've redownloaded Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger and have rewatched up to E8. Back when the show was on the air, I've only watched half of it and so I'll watching many of the latter episodes for the very first time. Most of the show aired during the Reiwa era, yet I can't help but see it as a Heisei show.

[personal profile] linky talked about SHT being off the air for a week as it was replaced by a live broadcast of a golf game. Longtime tokusatsu fans know this happens every year which means it's a good excuse to have an annual fanworks flashfest centred on golf that lasts for the weekend of the golf hiatus.

Thought up some golf-themed prompts for a such a fest, many of which are inspired by team-centric modern Super Sentai and Ultraman shows.

Fanwork Prompts: Golf

01) (Canon Compliant) Golf Outing - The gang goes to play golf together as a bonding activity and may or may not run into the villains during their outing.

02) (Canon Compliant) Character is a secret golfer - Someone discovers that character has a secret golf hobby and tries it out to get to know them better.

03) (AU or Canon Compliant) Golf as excuse to cover up a secret relationship - A ship has to hide being together for some reason and pretends to be into golf as a cover up for their secret dates. The rest of the gang might or might not suspect anything and asks to join one of their golf games.

04) (AU or Canon Compliant) Undercover Golf Player - Someone has to pretend to be great at playing golf for a mission.

05) (AU) World of Professional Golf - One character is a professional golf athletes and someone else is their coach/rival/social media manager/fan.

06) (AU) Alien Golf Player - Someone is an alien who visits earth to enter an intergalactic golf tournament. Or they're in the middle of one and one of the holes is located on Earth.

I don't know much about golf but when I was into Ryusoulger, I wanted to write a Bamba/Canalo Golf AU since Bamba's actor is also a professional golf player. I went as far as chatting with an actual golf coach but alas, I was not so practised at writing concise AUs and went the K-pop way.
