g_uavaBut for once I'm not obsessed with the anime featured in this post. It's Muteki Kanban Musume (English title: Ramen Fighter Miki) that's about a violent, hyperactive girl working for her mom at a Chinese ramen restaurant in between fights with her nemeses and doing the occasional good deed with questionable results. I have a vague memory of first watching it on Crunchyroll, back in their early years when paid streaming platforms were far from taking off.
The show stuck in my memory not only because I love slice of life comedies, but also as I got a comment for a femslash fic I wrote about the protagonist Miki and Megumi, Miki's nemesis among nemeses. My fic was based on one of the prompts from the 30 Kisses Livejournal Community and posted there too, where someone mentioned knowing the show and liking my writing!
On my rewatch, I saw how I got into Miki/Megumi, as both are equally invested in their rivalry even as Megumi is clearly more obsessed. All the characters have endeared me as no one has the upper hand all the time. So Miki can be breaking bones and kicking someone to the ground in one scene, then in the next her mom would be bashing her skull against the wall for not really working (it is a comedy anime). It had been refreshing for me, as a much younger viewer, to see a female main character looking silly and ridiculous. Aside from her, I now appreciate the side characters more, and even the character who's the designated punching bag gets his sympathetic allies.
I also appreciate the anime's competent comedy that lets me relax and turn off my brain. Even with young female characters central to the show, fanservice for male otaku is kept to a minimum, and there's hardly anything I have to overlook while entering the world of the fictional town Hanamimachi in the show and having a good time.
