Just sticking with Lupin III and gang
May. 2nd, 2025 08:29 amFor some time, I've been orienting myself towards repeated viewings of my favourite media. Taking a second look, a third one and more of the same story, rotating my interpretations over again. Before having a fast Internet connection became widespread, I reread and rewatched a lot, and I'm taking back up the habit while thinking more deeply on its benefits over the more common practise of going through one piece of new work -- new to me, that is -- after another.
While rereading the books I finished before, I've set out on an adjacent challenge to stick to just a) rewatch shows I've completed and b) only watch new shows from one franchise with a view towards rewatching its episodes or movies. That franchise is Lupin III, which is pretty massive with series stretching all the way back to the 70s and covering various animation styles and trends since then.
I started with Part 2/Red Jacket, that is the longest show in the franchise with 155 episodes. Instead of beginning from EP1, I first finished this list of recommended episodes and then returned to the first one. Even when I reach an episode listed in the guide, I watch it again, and am pleased that far from getting bored, I enjoy the episode like during my first watch.
Lots to catch and appreciate in a piece of creative work even for that which is targeted towards a wide audience. I get a better sense of all the layers involved especially after thinking more about my own creations. I'll see just how far I can stay interested in watching and rewatching Lupin III stuff with the exception of rewatching shows and seeing new movies.
