Hi, I'm guava! I'm over 18 years old and live in an Asian time zone. I'm into fandoms based on Asian media, mainly various anime franchies and K-pop. Being a lifelong weeaboo has got me into learning Japanese (since 2014) to better understand the cultural context of my favourite works and to gobble up fanworks by Japanese fans for my rare ships.

As a fanworks creator, I specialize in writing fanfiction. Stories about my OTPs are posted on guava. Other stories of mine are on my side account ketchupsauce.

I have created some graphics which are shared on juicedguava and tokucastedits. I have also set up RinBin Moments, a sort of shrine dedicated to the pairing of Kim Youngbin and Kim Inseong from SF9 containing video clips and photos, which is no longer updated as of 2022.

On Dreamwidth, I frequent the communities fictional_fans, paradisediner, anime_manga and journalsandplanners. When I manage to be active here, I compile my community posts in entries for the Community Thursday challenge.

Back when I was actively following my ult (boy group SF9), I tried self-studying Korean with Talk To Me in Korean but that gave way to other interests 😂 Hope your studies are progressing better!

SF9 is one of my fave groups too! I continue to be salty that Apple Music hasn't licensed most of their music in my region. My favourite EP of theirs is Rumination. Who's your bias/es in the group?

I'm self-studying too, with KoreanClass101 in my case. I'm not very disciplined either LOL but I do see some slow and steady improvement.

Cool! My fav EP is Narcissus and my bias is Youngbin, then Inseong as a close second bias. Do you have a bias for them?

Slow and steady is great for language learning since it's more or less a life-long project. It's difficult for me to absorb the language without hiring a tutor to converse with but I just don't have the time, funds and motivation for that especially as I've fallen off watching idol live broadcasts and variety shows.

My bias is Taeyang and my biaswreckers are Dawon and Jaeyoon. I also biased Rowoon back when he was in the group.

I don't have a tutor or anyone to converse with either, and I do think most of my language learning is skewed right now because it's input with no output. But maybe I can get a language exchange partner or conversation buddy eventually, idk. It really is hard with a fulltime job to make time and effort for other things.

Ah, Taeyang, the unexpected fountain of memes! I saw your Dan-oh icon and wondered if you knew about SF9 through Rowoon's role in the drama.

Having more input than output is inevitable for learners who are learning the language outside of where it's commonly spoken. It is more difficult to commit to classes or anything which involves syncing up with other busy adults on a regular basis. For K-Pop fans, there's far more motivation to keep at it if there are lots of contents of fav groups without subtitles, but back in the day I just relied on the one Fantasy translator practically carrying the entire international SF9 fandom on their back 😂

I was lucky enough to know Rowoon before Extraordinary You, I knew SF9 right from Now or Never era <3 I did like him more thanks to that drama though, it's one of my favourite dramas of all time!

I am soooo obliged to fan translators, for real! Yeah it's inevitable that we have no one to converse with I guess. Sigh. Yeah having content available only raw is a motivator to learn lol. I feel that way when the webtoons I follow aren't translated quick enough to alleviate the cliffhangers LOL.
