Snowflake Challenge 2019 | Day 3 - A Favourite Piece of Original Canon

Prompt: In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much.

One of my favourite moments in Timeranger is Naoto's first transformation as TimeFire, especially the part where he's able to understand the English tutorial recorded on his transformation device. This scene is the reason for my headcanon of Naoto being good in English, or at least in understanding spoken English. 彼の英語レベルは超ヤバいぞ!





Unfortunately, this little detail wasn't copied over to the American adaptation of the same scene in Power Rangers Time Force. We don't see Eric Myers, Naoto's PR counterpart, squinting at 'runes' and recognizing them as kanji, heh.

Ah, interesting bit of 'lost in translation'. *squints* He looks a bit old to be a teenaged Power Ranger.

He's a college dropout and around 22 years old actually. This show is one of the more 'serious' entries in the franchise and the majority of the main cast are adults.

Well, that's not a good use of having your source handy, but I suppose at that time they weren't trying to do anything that would be a knowing wink to those who could follow along with the Super Sentai series?

Ironically Eric, out of all the Time Force rangers, gets turned into his Sentai counterpart the most (Wiki says the actors look very similar but tbh the similarity starts and ends with their jawlines). I'm living for all the 0.3 secs in which Naoto makes a 'cameo' in Power Rangers...

That makes sense. And would be helpful, I think, to have, since it seems like everyone isn't trying so hard to keep the two fandoms apart any more.
